Text Box: Wenonah High School
Birmingham, Alabama

Aho Architects, LLC has been appointed by the Birmingham City Board of Education as the new architect for the 208,000 square foot Wenonah High School located in Birmingham, Alabama. This new school features two multi-level classroom buildings, two gymnasiums, a ROTC shooting range and a stadium. The upper classroom building houses general classrooms, science labs, administrative suites and a media center, while the lower building features a band room, choral room, cafeteria and a state-of-the-art 750 seat auditorium with the Vortek Rigging System. In addition, the lower building also provides classrooms for vocational disciplines such as electronics, welding and cosmetology. The existing gymnasium was renovated to accommodate over 1,400 spectators, while a practice gymnasium was constructed adjacent to the newly renovated competition gym.

The demolition of the existing high school is swiftly approaching and will provide the school with a location for a new 4,500 seat stadium, six-lane competition track, concessions and support buildings.

Text Box: “Wenonah High School is going to be a crown jewel for the entire system.”

Text Box: “If I were a student here, I would be so jubilant; I would not know how to act. Learning should take place; everything here is conducive to learning. All the children have to do is apply themselves.”
